Snowmageddon 2019

Arizona has received record snow fall this year. Snow fell in the lowest elevations I’ve seen in my 11 years here. It is beautiful. We packed a lunch and took Hope along for her first snow outing.

In order to avoid major crowds we opted to head east towards Superior and Globe, keeping far away from Prescott and Flagstaff. We were surprised to see snow in the canyons along US60.

We turned down a dead end road to get out and play in the snow among the boulders.  It was a popular area but we managed to find space apart from the city-heads.

We got Hope out and she wasn't impressed at first.  She kept sinking into the 6 or so inches of snow and just didn't understand why the ground was unstable. But she quickly figured it out and loved it.

It was wild to see cactus buried in the snow. And the icy ponds that formed after weeks of rain and snow.

We motored down to lower elevations and slightly warmer temps for a lunch break.  While Hope liked the snow, she got cold and needed a warm break.

We motored along Roosevelt Lake and made out way up another road, only to discover that a $7 bushing failed and we had no 4x4 for the rest of the day.  We turned about and made out way home.

The sun was high today and as we made our way back, small waterfalls had formed along the US60.  As quickly as the snow came down, it will melt away.  It was a really nice day excursion in the rare, southern AZ snow fall.
